VCEH is a nonprofit membership advocacy organization that brings people together to advocate, educate and develop resources to eliminate homelessness and poverty in Virginia. The Virginia Coalition to End Homelessness promotes public education about homelessness through research, conferences, advocacy and training. VCEH collaborates with state agencies to research best practices, develop policy recommendations, and work with our members to advance their goal of ending homelessness as we know it.
The VCEH Conference and Annual Meeting is the only state-wide conference on homelessness, and provides technical assistance to shelter providers, information on best practices, training sessions on legislation and advocacy, and the opportunity to honor outstanding advocates and service providers.
Ending Homelessness
Each year, the Virginia Coalition to End Homelessness develops and promotes a legislative agenda aimed at supporting homeless people, promoting their return to independent housing, and preventing homelessness for all Virginians.
The Virginia Coalition to End Homelessness provides training in public advocacy, so that a knowledgeable and active public citizenry can influence state policies to address and prevent homelessness. Past successes include: Budget amendments to lower the tax burden on low income workers, to provide state support for shelter operating expenses and expansion, the passage of a refundable Earned Income Tax Credit, and to hire Children's Coordinators in shelters that serve families. Through the Homeless Intervention Program, families at risk of homelessness receive emergency assistance to help them maintain their housing though crises. Future efforts will focus on the passage of the Virginia Fair Wage Act.
