Our Priorities and Goals

Permanent Supportive Housing

VCEH's 1,000 Homes for 1,000 Virginians initiative is making a difference in local communities. Our goal is to house 1,000 of the most vulnerable Virginians that are cycling between the streets to emergency shelters to jail and to hospitals. These individuals are often medically vulnerable, and without housing and a connection to primary healthcare, they become increasingly ill. They are 3-4 times more likely to die prematurely than the average Virginian.

Rapid Re-Housing

The state has set a goal of reducing homelessness by 15 percent by 2013. We are engaged in a public-private partnership to mobilize the community and political will to increase affordable housing opportunities for children and their families experiencing homelessness. This initiative will involve partnerships with communities to build the infrastructure necessary to provide a hand-up to children and their families ensuring a safe and stable home for all of Virginian's children.

Community Capacity Building

VCEH is the only statewide forum for community leaders to come together and collaborate on statewide solutions to homelessness. We offer publications, training, networking, and forums to identify and share strategies and innovations. We are a resource to those administering programs, crafting community responses, designing and evaluating programs, and shaping local and state policy.
